Statement of Intent
CITY BREAK
The purpose of this panel is to show the experience of London through the eyes of a visitor.
With typically only a few days available, and with a guide book in hand, the visitor will plan a hectic schedule to see all the attractions on offer. There is so much to see and do - the old and the new, the iconic buildings, sampling the culture, soaking up the atmosphere, finding places to eat and mastering the transport system. And then also the unplanned and unexpected.
The experience inevitably becomes a blur. Multiple views will be seen but only partially remembered. The detail that was studied so carefully will quickly fade. So many other people going to the same places and getting in the way. Memories become hazy and a little vague and maybe even forgotten.
The panel uses the multiple exposure technique to reflect this experience. Each image in the multiple exposure is just as the visitor would have seen it, but they become a blur when blended, just like the visitor’s memory.
